Living Sober Alcoholics Anonymous

Living Sober Alcoholics Anonymous
11 Novembre 2022 admin

For many people who don’t have healthy relationships with themselves, substance misuse can be a way to mask that discomfort. Then, they don’t have to learn how to love themselves because they’re covering their feelings rather than dealing with them. When you live a sober life, you can get to know yourself and feel comfortable in your own skin. Self-love and addiction are two things that can never go hand-in-hand.

With newborn energy and confidence, long-term recovery becomes even more obtainable. Healthy living habits become routine, providing constant alternatives to drugs and ultimately preventing relapse. When you’re sober, you’ll have more time to focus on yourself and your well-being. You can engage in physically and mentally healthy activities, such as regular exercise, eating nutritious meals, and taking care of your mental health.

You live longer.

Residents are often required to take drug tests and demonstrate efforts toward long-term recovery. By seeking help and attending support groups like Refuge Recovery, Smart recovery, Celebrate Recovery, Alcoholics Anonymous…, individuals can learn to live a fulfilling sober life. It may be difficult at first, but the benefits of sobriety – improved health, relationships, and overall happiness – outweigh any temporary pleasure from alcohol. Remember that you are not alone in your struggle and there is always help available. It is important for individuals in recovery to carefully examine their own relationship with alcohol and make the decision that is best for their personal health and well-being. Many rehabilitation programs offer support and guidance in navigating this decision, including tools and resources and strategies.

If people press that response, I’ll either stare at them and hold an uncomfortable silence (this is enjoyable at some point), or just change the subject. There are exceptions to this, like if someone alludes to their own struggle with alcohol, and then I might offer up a bit more of my personal experience. In these moments, I have to remind myself that recovery isn’t just about not drinking; it’s about remembering that I am first and foremost responsible for advocating for my own well-being and boundaries.

You’re less forgetful.

Some SLH’s today continue with a “strong manager” model of operations. Often, a person in recovery rents out rooms, collects money for rent and bills, evicts individuals for relapse and either mandates or strongly encourages attendance at 12-step meetings. The potential downfall of these types of houses is they do not capitalize on the strength of peer support and peer empowerment. Fortunately, many contemporary house managers have recognized the value of integrating social model recovery principles into house operations. These houses tend to have a residents council or a similar mechanism for resident empowerment and input into house operations.
